This Week’s Challenge: Focus on What You Do Have
It’s easy to get discouraged by what we don’t have or by the things in life that aren’t going the way we hoped. Sometimes we become so focused on our struggles that we forget how much we still have to be thankful for. We often compare ourselves to people we believe are “better off,” when instead, we should remember that many others are facing even greater challenges or are less fortunate than we are.
This week, my students and I have been talking about automatic negative thoughts and how they can keep us feeling “stuck”. To help shift their perspective, I share a video from one of my favorite inspirational speakers, Nick Vujicic. Despite being born without arms and legs, he chooses to embrace life for all that it offers rather than focus on what it doesn’t.
I encourage my students to remember Nick whenever they start falling into a negative spiral. His story is a powerful reminder to focus on gratitude, resilience, and possibility. I hope his message inspires you as much as it inspires me.
